Analysis and Research

Broadband Illinois runs analysis on the collected data to help us better understand the current status of Broadband Connectivity throughout the state.  This allows us to target areas that truly need better broadband for better lives.

Area Ranking Maps
PCI has established a baseline to evaluate broadband access through a ranking system. Each item measured receives a score that is a weighted average calculation of percent area covered multiplied by speed tier.

Speed Tier Analysis
This the base of all analysis performed here at Broadband Illinois. This is a measure of the highest available advertised download speed for any given location. We use this result in many of the other analysis.

Timeline Analysis
This analysis is a graphical and cartographic display of how our data has changed since we began collecting broadband data. We update this analysis every 6 months with each passing submission cycle.

Baseline Report
The report, a product of data and geographic analysis by the PCI Data Team, provides a useful summary of the broadband supply information that has been collected and published on the Broadband Illinois web site since February 2011, and which is currently being updated with new, fresh data.

Broadband Competition Map
The "Number of Broadband Providers by Census Block" maps display (on a census block level) the number of carriers who provide service to all or part of each Illinois census block.

FCC Broadband Deployment Map
This map was created by the FCC to illustrate the Commission’s broadband deployment results found in the Eighth Broadband Progress Report, which uses data underlying the National Broadband Map, as of June 30, 2011.
